Speaker of the Parliament and former of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed had been released from ADK Hospital and left for Germany for further treatment.
He departed on a private jet followed by a second jet for additional security.
A direct flight from the Maldives to Germany would take about 11 hours.
The former President's medical team at ADK Hospital said that the former President sustained 16 shrapnel penetrations following the bombing attack last week, and had to go through 16 hours of life saving surgery.
An assassination attempt was made on the Speaker of the Parliament with an improved explosive device planted on a motorcycle outside his residence as he was entering his car.
The former President was taken to ADK Hospital by his security following the attack and had been treated there up to today.
While three suspects in the bombing has been arrested, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that there would more people behind the attack and they would all be brought to justice. The President also ordered the relevant authorities to strengthen security ordered to set a special residence for the heads of the remaining two branches of government.
