Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that the 19th body of Parliament will pass an amendment to combat issues with housing.

Nasheed said this while speaking today at the inaugural event held at Hulhumale’ for the Parliament Campaign Policy Workshop of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

The former President said that the biggest issue faced by citizens of Male’ and the atoll islands, is the issue of housing. He said that a housing amendment will pass through the upcoming 19th body of Parliament. Nasheed reiterated that this amendment will bring together the powers of implementation and the authority of regulations to ensure that housing is offered equally without discrimination to all.

He noted that there are currently 40, 000 people in Maldives seeking solutions to housing issues. Nasheed reiterated that the housing amendment will therefore have clearly set policies regarding the matter.

The former President said that while the 19th body of Parliament will pass the amendment, it will correct current housing policies. He also said that policies will be set specifically targeting those that face hyosung issues while residing in the greater Male’ area.

Nasheed noted that the amendment will contain policies involving the usage of Hulhumale’-south area and further reclaimed land for housing.
