Former Vice President, Ahmed Adeeb has been taken back to prison following treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
Adeeb was brought to Male’ from prison in an emergency and admitted at IGMH the previous evening.
The former VP’s family had informed that Adeeb had fainted, hit his head on a wall and that he had a swelling on his forehead due to this. The family also reported that Correctional services had transferred Adeeb to the hospital after his nose began bleeding.
Family members of Adeeb expressed anger regarding Adeeb’s treatment and released a statement alleging that Minister of Home Affairs, Sheikh Imran Abdulla had exerted influence over Adeeb’s medical matters.
Adeeb’s family further reported that five doctors at IGMH attended Adeeb. They also reported that doctors have said that the fainting spell was due to medication given by the previous doctor following Adeeb passing kidney stones. It was also reported that the doctor who attended Adeeb yesterday had concurred with this diagnosis.
Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb was sentenced to 33 years in prison following a conviction rendered regarding several cases. These cases include the incident on board Presidential vessel “Finifen maa” during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen as well as the MMPRC corruption case.
