Local Sports Club, New Radiant faces suspension starting from today.

The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has confirmed the news.

FAM published a statement today stating that the biggest sports club in Maldives and winner of several achievements in football, New Radiant S.C has been suspended. The Association cited the reason for the suspension as, the Sports Club not having paid salaries and allowances of 10 players since August 2018.

The statement revealed that the FAM had advised the club to pay the salaries and allowances on various occasions. FAM reported that New Radiant S.C. had said that the budget was lacking and that it had been spent on various expenditures and informed that the club failed to pay the salaries of football players.

The Football Association reported that the salaries and allowances that needs to be paid to the 10 football players amount to MVR 3.8 million. It was then declared that New Radiant Sports Club is facing suspension until the full amount for salaries and allowances owed are paid under the agreements made with the football players as this is their right. FAM further said that New Radiant S.C will be barred from participating in Association events and matches till the conditions are met.

The statement further said that the issue had been proposed to the FAM Disciplinary Committee and said that the executive Committee of FAM had decided on the suspension. The Association also offered assurances that they would always ensure that the rights of the community of football players in Maldives are maintained.
