Fuvahmulah City Mayor Ismail Rafeeq contested and won against Male' City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for the seat of Local Government Authority (LGA) represented by local city councils.

Mayor Rafeeq won the election by a difference of three votes. Preliminary results show that Rafeeq had 24 votes while Muizzu had 21. Rafeeq won the seat that is represented by city councils.

Election for the seat represented by local island councils were also conducted today. K. Guraidhoo Council President, Hussain Yameen Mohamed won the seat 416 as opposed to 414 votes of his opponent, Ahmed Karamaa, AA. Thodoo Council President.

As for the Atoll Council Seat, Kaafu Atoll Councillor Mohamed Nimal had won the seat without an election after the opposing candidate failed to submit their form on time.

Decentralization Act declares LGA must be composed of a nine-member board. This also includes a Cabinet minister appointed by the President, a female member experienced in the field of gender equality, a member experienced in governance or public administration, and a representative of civic groups.
