Ministry of Foreign Affairs has that it has been noticed that some media outlets have been repeatedly publish false and defomatory articles regarding to foreign ambassadors and diplomats.
Foreign Ministry issued a statement today stating that these false article could lead to disruption of the old friendships and collaborations between the Maldives and the countries being smeared if it leads to creating mistrust among the public.
The Ministry said that these articles could also obstruct the ability for foreign diplomats to do their jobs and threaten their security.
Foreign Ministry advised the local media outlets to work in accordance.to the international laws and in such a way that does not affect international relations.
While such a statement has been released, a recent letter from the Indian High Commission in Maldives to the Foreign Ministry raising concerns about false and defomatory articles on local news was leaked by a local media outlets and on social media.
The letter also stated that such articles are being published repeatedly and it could affect the old friendship between the two countries.
The Indian High Commission has requested that action be taken against such media outlets.
And so, the Parliament Committee for Independent Institutes has made a request at the Maldives Media Council to look in to the matter.
