This was the third attempt to attack Nasheed: CP

Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameedh has revealed that the May 06th terrorist attack on Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed was the third attempt to attack him.

Speaking during a joint press conference by Maldives Police Service and the Prosecutor General's Office, CP Hameedh said that the assassination attempt on Speaker Nasheed was motivated after Nasheed "declared as an infidel" and his blood "deemed halaal". He added that Nasheed's murder was being plotted as far back as 2019.

CP Hameedh said that 640 people have been met with to collect information, with 228 statements taken and 109 CCTV Footage being analysed with 5,600 total hours of footage.

One of the key figures who had incited violence against Speaker Nasheed was arrested in Addu City today.

The arrested individual is Ha. Hoarafushi, Alanaasige, Mohamed Thasmeen.
