Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameedh has stated that extremists were willing to risk their lives to murder Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.

Speaking during a joint press conference by Maldives Police Service and the Prosecutor General's Office, CP Hameedh said that Adhuham Ahmed Rasheed is the person waiting by Athama Palace to trigger the blast that was aimed at Speaker Nasheed. He noted that Adhuham was ready to sacrifice his life in order to carry out the attack, according to their investigations.

CP Hameedh further revealed that Thahmeen Ahmed is the owner of the motorcycle that was used for the blas, and that he had helped in the installation of the IED on the motorcycle. Investigations have also marked him as a key figure in the planning of this terrorist attack.

Mujaz Ahmed was the person who provided a change of clothes to Adhuham following the blast, and his aid who helped him stay low afterward. Ahmed Fathih had helped in bringing Mujaz to Adhuham.

In addition to them, Ali Haisham, Ishaq, Fahmee Ali, Mohamed Nazim, Abdulla AliManik, Mohamed Thasleem are also currently under arrest.

The CP said Ali Haisham had also helped in the installation of the IED. CP Hameedh further highlighted that the investigation had found that Ishaq is a key figure in the planning and execution of the terrorist attack, who played a vital role in training and preparing Adhuham for the attack. Fahmee and Nazim had also participated in the attack.

One of the key figures who had incited violence against Speaker Nasheed was arrested in Addu City today.

The arrested individual is Ha. Hoarafushi, Alanaasige, Mohamed Thasmeen.
