MP for Mid-Maafannu constituency, Ibrahim Rasheed "Bonde" has said that saying there was no one funding the bombing on 6 May in an attempt to assassinate the Speaker of the Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed, does not make a logical or intellectual sense.
On Sunday's press conference in regards to the bombing with an improvised explosive device (IED) planted on a motorcycle, Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamed Riyaz said that the investigation do not find that someone funded the terrorist attack.
In a Twitter response today to that remark, Bonde said that from last year to June this year, MVR. 7.4 million was scammed from the public. And saying that no one funded the terrorist attack without finding where that money went or who took it does not make any logical sense.
On 9 July, Maldives Police Service revealed that MVR 3.9 million have been stolen through various scams this year so far.
Police said that from 1 January 2020 to 16 June 2021, MVR 7.4 million have been stolen through scams and 259 cases have been reported to the Police this year so far.
