President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that solar power systems are to be installed in 82 islands within this year.
President Solih said this during his presidential address on the occasion of the first sitting of Parliament, 2019 that took place at Dharubaaruge. The President noted that current efforts are directed towards minimizing dependency on fuels and increasing the use of renewable energy to generate electricity.
President Solih said that the use of renewable energy will double, following the installation of renewable energy within islands.
As such, the President noted several ways of utilizing renewable energy sources. The means include using renewable energy to generate electricity as well as paving the way for SAARC countries that sell and purchase the energy.
Additionally the President said that Maldives will be signing “SAARC Framework Agreement for Energy Cooperation (Electricity)” agreement as well.
