Former President and Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed has returned to the Maldives after five months.

Speaker Nasheed arrived in the Maldives on an Emirates flight. He was in Dubai for the Dubai Expo prior to his arrival to the Maldives. Speaker Nasheed was welcomed by President Solih at the airport.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Eva Abdulla, Consul General at the Parliament Fathimath Niusha as well as Chief of Staff Ali Zahir also welcomed him at the VIP Lounge in the airport.

Even though the former President has returned to the Maldives, it remains unsure how long he will stay in the country or whether he will travel abroad again or not.

His return is after five months of being abroad in recovery, following an assassination attempt on him last May.

He had sought treatment in Germany as well as the United Kingdom. His family has revealed that he is doing better than before.
