Committee investigating awarding of flats in the previous administration’s housing projects has announced that flats had been awarded to unmarried people, married couples and father and child.

These findings were gathered by the committee assembled by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on investigating issues with housing projects. Member of Committee, Fathimath Rasheeda, spoke at a press conference revealing that evaluation of forms submitted to acquire flats are currently ongoing. She has also said that issues with the housing projects will be further investigated moving forwarded.

The committee member spoke on flats awarded to families of persons with disabilities or “H10”, and said that there are certain issues with flats awarded under the category.

As such, Rasheeda said that a flat had been awarded to a father and child where the child had filed as a person with a disability. The child had reportedly gone on to file a form under the over 18 years of age category and warded full marks in the evaluation process. The committee member has said that both father and child had acquired flats within housing project with the same form that was submitted.  

Rasheeda has said that it is difficult to ascertain exactly who would be acquiring a flat in such a case.

She further noted that a married couple had also been awarded a flat. Rasheeda said that while the living condition had not been revealed in the application form, the evaluation had awarded full marks in the section.

The committee member revealed that as per the current regulations one of the people among a married couple would have to let go of the flat awarded.

Rasheeda has said that while being married is a compulsory requirement under “Hiyaa” housing project, a divorcee has also been awarded a flat.
