The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Maldives, Woonjin Jeong, has commended the Maldivian Government’s proactive approach to control the COVID-19 pandemic, in his congratulatory message on the occasion of the 54th Anniversary of the Diplomatic Relations between Korea and Maldives.

Noting that each country has its own difficulties in facing the deadly virus, Ambassador Jeong noted it was remarkable how the Maldivian government has implemented effective measures to overcome the pandemic.

In the message, Ambassador also highlighted on the assistance provided by the Korean Government to the Maldivian Government in the battle against the pandemic.

Highlighting the initiative “Stay Strong Campaign” by the Korean Foreign Ministry during the onset of COVID-19 last year, and the close public health cooperation between Korea and Maldives, Ambassador noted Korean government handed over 150 test kits (15,000 test) to the Maldives.

Ambassador highlighted the initiative was instrumental in providing medical and financial assistance to Korea’s international partners as well as disseminating information regarding the strategies adopted by Korea to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ambassador also assured Korean government will continue to closely cooperate with the Maldives to contain COVID-19.

The Republic of Korea and the Republic of Maldives established Diplomatic Relations on 30th November 1967.
