Criminal Court has passed the order the detention of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom until the trial is concluded. The Prosecutor General’s office has asked the Criminal Court to issue an arrest for the former President.
The One Online correspondent on site has reported that charges have been raised against President Yameen on pressuring and offering bribes to witnesses in the case of money laundering at MMPRC.
While President Yameen is to be possibly taken to Dhoonidhoo Prison, a vessel has been docked near Maldives Police Service headquarters at the Shaheed Hussain Adam Building. Supporters of President Yameen and senior officials of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC) have gathered in the area.
