Majority Leader of Parliament, and MP for Vilimale’ constituency, Nihan Hussain Manik has said that former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom can be arrested and thrown in prison.

MP Nihaan had taken to twitter to reiterate that while this may be true, the thought of development spread by former President Yameen cannot be locked away.

While Nihan has taken to twitter to express this view President Yameen had been summoned to Criminal Court, pending a hearing on possible detention. The Prosecutor General’s office had today submitted a request at Criminal Court asking the court to issue an order for the arrest of President Yameen which the could has complied.

A hearing was held at the Criminal Court at 1:30 pm today following summons to President Yameen to attend the court. The Criminal Court had then passed a sentence ordering the detention of President Yameen until the conclusion of his trial on charges of money laundering.
