MP for Vilimale’ constituency, Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik, has said that a vote of no confidence will be proposed at Parliament today, against the Minister of Defense Ustaz. Mariya Ahmed Didi.

Nihan said this at a joint press conference of People’s National Congress (PNC) with Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) today.

He said that a statement declaring no confidence against the Minister of Defense will be submitted at Parliament today.

MP Nihan said that even if Maldives is weak or not equipped with weapons, a person at the position of Minister of Defense should not go to to a neighboring country and say certain things. As such, Nihan said that the Maldivian Minister of Defense cannot be allowed to say that Maldives can be taken under the control India if India so desired.

Nihan said that it is an issue where the Minister of Defense should clearly be held accountable.

He said that even if a justification is given regarding statements that Minister Mariya has made, it is apparent to herself and most Maldivians that she does not fulfill the requisites for taking on the position of the Minister of Defense.

MP Nihan said that he has currently filled out all the required paperwork to move forward with the vote of no confidence against Minister of Defense. He added that the only work that has not yet been completed is the collection of signatures.
