With the first sitting of Parliament in 2019 has been scheduled for tomorrow, the vote on the bill to empower commissions on asset recovery and disappearances have been scheduled for the session.
A Bill had been enacted to empower the Presidential Commissions assembled by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. This involves the Commission on Investigation of Murder and Enforced Disappearances as well as the Commission on Corruption and Asset Recovery.
While the Independent Institutions Committee at Parliament have researched and proposed the Bill to the floor, several authorities granted to the Presidential Commission have been minimized.
Tomorrow’s session at Parliament has been scheduled to conclude the research on the Bill and to vote on the report submitted by the Independent Institutions Committee.
The Agenda for Parliament have been made public by the Parliamentary Secretariat. The first action on the agenda is to forward the ratification of “Framework Agreement for Establishing International Solar Alliance” to the Permanent Committee.
The second action on the agenda is for the MP for Ihavandhoo constituency Mohamed Abdulla to conduct the presenting of the bill for Penal Code reform.
Additionally, the presenting of the amendment to the General Laws of Elections proposed by MP for Hulhudhoo constituency Mohamed Shahid is set to take place in the sitting as well. The primary debate of the Bill ensuring Security Rights for Former Vice Presidents proposed by MP for Eydhafushi constituency Ahmed Saleem is to take place tomorrow at Parliament.
A report on the final conclusion drawn by the Government Accountability Committee regarding current work and changes brought to new sectors of the government will also be presented.
Additionally, a report on amendment to the Pension Act of the country by the Parliamentary Financial Committee is also set to be proposed at Parliament tomorrow.
The official opening of Parliament took place on 7 February 2019 by President Solih. The general assembling of Parliament has been scheduled weekly every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
While the sittings of the 18th Parliamentary body of Maldives in 2019 commences tomorrow, the election for the 19th Parliamentary body of Maldives is fast approaching.
The Parliamentary elections in Maldives is set to be held on 6 April 2019.
