MP for Vilimale’ constituency and Majority Leader at Parliament Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik has said that there will be a day when PPM will ascend to the Presidency. He has also said that the offenses of this government will be addressed one day.

Speaking on a coverage program shown on “Channel 13”, Nihan said that former President Abdulla Yameen will become the President of Maldives once again.

The MP of Vilimale’ constituency added that President Yameen has been sentenced to prison under allegations of corruption in an effort to influence upcoming Parliamentary elections.

Nihan said that the Presidency of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will not last forever and that there will.come a day when the Presidency changes.

He said that the detention of President Yameen has been imposed on the grounds that the USD 1 million in President Yameen’s accounts were acquired through corrupt activities. Nihan added that while this is currently the situation, the former President has said on several occasions that the funds rightfully belong to him.

Nihan reiterated that the charges against President Yameen are only political and that he is ready to take whatever action necessary to free President Yameen.

President Yameen had been taken into Police custody and transferred to Maafushi prison on 18 February 2019 straight from the court after a Criminal Court hearing.

The Prosecutor General’s office had initially asked the Criminal Court to issue an arrest for the President Yameen regarding an investigation into corruption at Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC). The Criminal Court had then ordered the detention of President Yameen until court trial against the former President on charges of money laundering at MMPRC is concluded.
