Sri Lanka's cabinet has granted approval to purchase diesel and patrol from Indian Oil Corporation LTD under a USD 200 million short-term loan facility from Export-Import Bank of India.

According to Sri Lanka's Department of Government Informations, bids have been invited for four procurements to purchase fuel.

The cabinet approved the Power Minister's proposal upon the recommendation of Cabinet Appointed Special Standing Procurement Committee.

The cabinet has also approved the import of gas from Thailand.

Chairman of Litro, Vijitha Herath, said that Thailand's Siam Gas Company has agreed to supply gas to Sri Lanka with a 10% reduction in supply charges.

Citing the reduction, Herath added that there will be no changes in gas prices in Sri Lanka.
