President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has advised the Maldivian people  to not prioritize acts that violate this nation’s peace and to employ tolerance.

The President said this in his address at inauguration of “The National High Level Dialogue on Promoting Peace and Security” held at Hotel Jen, organized by the National Counter Terrorism Centre. He said that every Maldivian citizens desires to live in peace and harmony in this country. He added that every decision of the government is aimed towards ensuring that the people of Maldives are content and happy.

President Solih further noted that certain differences of thinking that should not exist within this society are now widespread. He said that the cause of this is neglecting to raise children in this country under the proper creed of peace dictated by Islam. The President said that it is because of this neglect that many have pushed aside the Islamic ways and taken up hate and intolerance. He added that many do not consider the danger that these actions pose and said that people continue to speak out by belittling the religion.

The President said in his address that it is every person’s role to aid in establishing a generation that will further build this nation up. He said, as such, that the government is also resolutely working on establishing an educated youth in this country. He further stressed on the importance of ensuring that every single member of the Maldivian youth is imbued with the proper Islamic values.

President Solih said that many Maldivians have set aside moderate Islamic thought and employed intolerant ways of thinking in taking up arms of terrorism at this time. He said that Maldivians assisting acts of terror is a threat to this country and society. He noted that not only does this impact the peace of this country but it serves to damage the economy as well

The President said that just because there is no ongoing war at any one place does not ensure peace. President Solih reiterated that a place enclosed in peace is where there is kindness, empathy and love among its people.
