The former President, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, has been taken back to Maafushi prison from Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) after receiving treatment. While President Yameen has been sentenced to detention by Criminal Court for remainder of his trial concerning charges of money laundering, he was brought to IGMH on emergency on 4 March 2019.
Media Official of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) Mohamed Mufeed has conformed the news to One Online today.
He said that President Yameen was discharged from the hospital today. Mufeed added that since President Yameen is under custody of Maldives Correctional Services at this time, he has been released to the Correctional Services.
President Yameen was taken into Police custody and transferred to Maafushi prison on 18 February 2019 straight from the court after Criminal Court hearing on charges of money laundering. While the detention had been appealed by the Prosecutor General’s Office, President Yameen has been sentenced to remain in detention until for the remainder of his trial.

Under advisement from cardiology doctors, President Yameen was discharged from the hospital the first time after 24 hours in observation.
The former President was once again rushed to the hospital on 4 March 2019 and discharged today.
Charges raised against President Yameen claim that he had acquired funds by transferring MVR 1.3 billion of MMPRC funds to his bank account at Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) through SOF Pvt Ltd. These charges allege that President Yameen had acquired financial benefits through USD 1 million that was laundered from these funds.
President Yameen’s bank accounts have been frozen regarding these charges.
