Speaker of the Parliament and Leader of the Jumhoory Party (JP), Qasim Ibrahim, has said the former President, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, shouldn't be kept in prison and must be released immediately.

Qasim made the statement at the campaign launch of Alhan Fahumee, running for parliament on a JP ticket.

The JP Leader said that the former President Yameen cannot be kept in prison, "lost" in the Steven after being arrested in light of an intelligence report.

He said that he is well aware how intelligence reports are made and when a two officers are sworn in by a judge, they give false testimony.

Qasim said that Justine must be served equally to everyone. And so any punishment should be given after due process.

The JP Leader has also raised the absurdity of every further president of the country going to jail after their term.
