Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor has been transferred to house arrest once again.

It has been reported that Adeeb was transferred sometime last night after treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

A media official of the Maldives Correctional Service informed One Online that the transfer took place sometime around 11:30 pm last night under clear conditions of the house arrest.

Correctional Service was however unclear on the duration of Adeeb’s house arrest or whether Adeeb had been transferred due to a court order or doctor’s advice.

The former Vice President is currently serving time after a conviction was rendered, ordering 33 years in prison charges of embezzlement and terrorism.

While Adeeb’s health was worsening behind bars, he had been transferred to house arrest, under doctor's advice even previously. He was however taken back to prison after the duration of his house arrest ended, in the first week of January 2019.

While a case has been submitted at High Court to dismiss charges against Adeeb, an appeal at Supreme Court by the State to ensure that Adeeb stays behind bars was granted. Adeeb was then transferred back to prison, less than 24 hours after his transfer under house arrest. He had however been brought to Male’ for treatment on several occasions even after the Supreme Court ruling.
