Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has won the super majority of the parliament, according to the preliminary results of the election.
The results so far show that MDP has won a total of 64 constituencies out of 87, which is a historic first for the party.
Former President and leader of MDP, Mohamed Nasheed was also elected as the MP for Mid Maafannu Constituency. The party won major seats across the country with notable figures such as Hisaan Hussain and Hassan Latheef being elected as well.
With over a 70% turnout, MDP has since begun celebrating their landmark win.
