Mahchangolhi Central MP elect, Mohamed Nasheed has said that the system of governance in the Maldives needed a change.
Speaking to PSM News, the former President said that such a change should be brought after the input of the President, the party and the citizens.
“In my view, the system of governance need to be changed in the Maldives. The President and the party along with all citizens will decide when this change should be brought,” President Nasheed said.
He stressed that he has always been a firm believer in a parliamentary system, and that it was the best form of system of governance for us. However he noted that it should be the President who should take charge and talk about changing the system first.
A change like this would require a long process that includes discussions with various party wings and groups as well as a referendum with the permission of the President.
