State Electric Company (STELCO) has said that the reason power cuts in Male’ City are due to heavy load from recent spike in temperature in the country.

In a statement issued following the mass power cut today, STELCO said that the power cuts are forced due to overload due to the temperature rise in the recent weeks. The company advised the use electronics that consume high electricity less frequently. And assured the public that power will be restored within the hour of power cut.

While STELCO has apologized for the inconvenience of power cuts, similar action is being taken in the islands by electricity providers to avoid overloading the generators.
