Maldives Immigration has denied rumors that Moulvi Zahran Hashim – who has been involved with the attacks on Sri Lanka – had travelled to the Maldives before.

In a statement put out on Wednesday, they confirmed that the Sri Lankan national had not traveled to the Maldives in the past five years or even beyond that.

“Reports in the media alleging that the said individual visited the Maldives during this said period are unsubstantiated and incorrect,” they added.

Maldives Immigration requested all media to verify information before reporting them since unverified reports only create confusion and disruption.

“Maldives Immigration is aware of the current threat dynamics following the attack in Sri Lanka and will continue to work with local and international security agencies, prioritizing border security measures to counter terrorism and related cross-border crimes,” they said.
