Chairman of Elections Commission of the Maldives, Ahmed Shareef is set to resign from his position since it does not allow him to partake in any political activities.
Speaking to PSM News. Shareef revealed that he has planned to resign from his position after concluding the Local Council Elections which will be held early next year.
Shareef noted that he believes he has been able to do his job quite effectively given the circumstances and challenges. Explaining his decision to resign. Shareef said that he was not able to partake in any political activities as a member of an independent instituition.
Before being appointed as the Chairman of Elections Commission, Shareef was the MP for Thimarafushi as well as the Managing Director of FENAKA. He was appointed to the EC during March of the previous year.
