Maldives Police Service have begun a probe into the sexual abuse of a 9 year old by her two brothers.

Police confirmed that the case was reported to them on May 10, around 22:40. Prime suspects in the case as of now are the 13 year old brother along with the older 16 year old brother of the victim.

The case is currently being investigated with the assistance of Family and Children Services Center (FCSC) of the Gender Ministry.

Police added that such cases related to abuse of children are investigated very seriously by them. They are also withholding sensitive information such as the island and the name of the victim for protection.

Gender Ministry has also confirmed about the case.

Assistant Director of Gender Ministry, Ibrahim Mohamed revealed that the victim has been transferred to a safe environment after having received information about her sexual abuse.
