Vilufushi MP Elect, Hasan Afeef has said that former President Mohamed Nasheed and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will not single out one candidate for the speakership of parliament, among those who have shown interest from their party, MDP.

Speaking on a program on Raajje TV tonight, Afeef expressed his beliefs that President Nasheed and President Solih will support the candidate nominated as the Speaker of Parliament through the regulations of the party.

"Our party has a procedure to nominate a candidate for the speakership. They will support who is nominated through due process. All members of MDP are equal in their eyes. I do not believe that either one of them will prioritise one candidate over other," he said.

Afeef added that if the majority of parliamentary group members wish for a secret vote to nominate a speaker and deputy speaker, those wishes should be met accordingly. However, there is no issue if the vote was not secret either.
