Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, Tilak Marapana has assured that they will work to create a safe environment for Maldivians living in Sri Lanka.

The assurance came during a phone call with his Maldivian counterpart, Minister Abdulla Shahid. During the phone call, discussions were carried out on the current situation of Maldivians in Sri Lanka and the challenges that they now face on a day-to-day basis.

In addition to this, the two Ministers also discussed the Sri Lankan Army Head's comments about the Maldives on an Indian television channel.

During the call, Minister Shahid had requested to take all necessary steps to ensure a safe environment for Maldivians who reside in Sri Lanka and noted of the difficulties that they may face.

Minister Tilak had also noted the prompt response by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his special envoy who was deployed to Sri Lanka immediately. The Minister had thanked the President during the call as well as Minister Shahid, since he was the first and highest ranking government official from any country to visit Sri Lanka following the bomb attacks in April.

Minister Shahid during the call also assured that the Maldives will continue working towards a terror free Indian Ocean with all the countries who are involved in it.
