The Ministry of Education, Labour and Skills Development has implemented the reforms suggested by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, ensuring that student loans comply with Islamic financial principles.

In a post on X, the President directed authorities to make all higher education loans fully Shariah-compliant. In response, the Ministry of Higher Education has reduced administrative fees and ensured that no additional charges beyond the loan amount will be applied.

As part of these changes, the ministry has:

  • Eliminated administrative fees for student loan repayments.Adjusted previously issued loans by deducting the one per cent administrative fee students had paid.
  • Ensured that only the principal loan amount will be required for repayment.

The ministry also expressed gratitude to President Muizzu for prioritising Islamic financial ethics in the country’s education system.
