Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced changes to its foreign transaction policies, raising the debit card limit for international online purchases from USD 250 to USD 500. While a 30 percent fee will be charged on purchases from selected foreign e-commerce platforms, including Temu, Shein, Alibaba, AliExpress, Lazada, and eBay, this charge will notapply to four specific card types: credit cards, travel cards, USD debit cards, and business debit cards.
In a post on X, BML confirmed that transactions made using these four card types on the mentioned sites will remain exempt from the 30 percent surcharge.
Regarding overseas withdrawals, BML stated that Maldivians abroad can now access up to USD 750 via the Foreign Limit portal. However, PR Manager Mohamed Nasih clarified that ATM withdrawals abroad will still be limited to USD 125 per month, with a USD 10 fee per withdrawal.
The bank also confirmed that students studying overseas remain unaffected by these changes. The current USD 1,200 monthly limit for students, including those on internships, remains unchanged. Eligible individuals can apply for this limit through the student portal.
