Mohamed Shakeel has resigned as Managing Director and board member of Maldives Hajj Corporation.

The Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) said on X on Tuesday that Shakeel submitted his resignation from both positions, which has since been accepted.

Shakeel's resignation comes after Parliament approved his appointment as a member of the Elections Commission (EC).

Parliament on Tuesday endorsed his appointment with the support of 51 of the 60 MPs present. Seven opposition MDP MPs voted against the appointment.

Shakeel previously served as an EC member from December 2014 to May 2018 and also held the post of Director General of the commission from September 2013 to December 2014.
