The People’s Majlis has approved the appointment of Mohamed Nizar from Ma. Yellow Bell as the President of the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB).

Nizar was nominated for the post by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. He was appointed to the position on April 30, following the resignation of the former PCB President, Mohamed Anas. Parliament endorsed Nizar’s appointment with a dominant majority of 49 votes out of the 50 members present during today's sitting.

Nizar brings over 30 years of experience in international trade, corporate management, and public administration, and he is highly regarded as a technical expert in monitoring and corporatizing State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). He previously served as the President of the PCB for five years from 2014 to 2019. During this term, he played a pivotal role in advancing the government's privatization and corporatization agenda, focusing heavily on strengthening governance frameworks and optimizing SOE operations.

He also dedicated more than 20 years of service to the State Trading Organization (STO), holding various senior executive roles, including General Manager and Deputy Director. His leadership spanned critical departments such as Imports, Administration, IT, and Sales. During his time at STO, he spearheaded strategic projects, including the implementation of the company's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, supply chain reinforcement, and the expansion of international trade relations.

In addition to these roles, Nizar has served as a board director for prominent companies, including Maldives Gas Pvt Ltd and Maldives Structural Products Pvt Ltd. He has also actively contributed to various national-level committees focusing on risk management, procurement, and corporate governance. Nizar holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Graduate Certificate in Business Administration from the University of South Australia, and he has participated extensively in various international high-level forums and training programs centered on corporate governance and public enterprise management.
