Deputy Speaker of the People's Majlis and PNC MP for Eydhafushi constituency, Ahmed Saleem (Redwave Saleem), has stated that the state will lose around a billion dollars due to the war started in the Gulf region following US attacks on Iran.

Saleem made these remarks while speaking during the debate on a resolution submitted to the parliament by opposition MDP MP for the Kendhoo constituency, Mauroof Zakir, regarding the dismissal of people expressing anti-government sentiments from government and state-owned enterprise jobs.

Saleem said that previous administrations had also been providing jobs to companies beyond their actual needs.

"However, when those companies reached a point where they could no longer be run, the result was that the companies had to reduce staff to some extent. That is a necessary measure. And particularly, we faced an unexpected issue, which is the Gulf war; this war is dragging on and we still have no idea when this war will end," Saleem said.

Saleem said that as a result, approximately one billion dollars would be lost to the state, combining the increase in fuel prices and the revenue expected by the government from tourism and other resources.

"Therefore, to uphold and sustain a state, the President is obligated to take the necessary measures at that time. That is how things must be carried forward to protect the national interest. Protecting the interest of the entire nation is an obligation upon the President. The danger posed to the entire country is greater than an individual losing their job; if the whole country is ruined, it will affect all the citizens of the country," Saleem said.
