The government has received MVR 439 million in grant aid so far this year, exceeding the amount projected in the 2026 state budget by 17%, the Ministry of Finance has said.
The budget had estimated MVR 374 million in grant assistance for the year. Finance Ministry figures show actual grants received have already surpassed that projection.
Last year, the Maldives received MVR 400 million in grant aid, despite an initial budget estimate of MVR 2.6 billion. This included MVR 34 million in cash grants and MVR 339 million in project grants.
The ministry noted that this year's budget only projected project grants, estimating MVR 324 million, while no cash grants were included in the forecast.
Finance also said grant inflows are expected to decline in the coming years. Medium-term budget projections estimate annual grant aid of around MVR 300 million over the next two years.
Official figures show the Maldives received more than MVR 1 billion in grant assistance annually between 2021 and 2023.
