President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the Fitness and Recreation Centres being developed across all inhabited islands are expected to be completed by November next year.

Speaking on the President's Office podcast The Pulse, the President said the ongoing sports infrastructure projects in the atolls would significantly improve sporting facilities nationwide, with every island set to have a modern fitness centre.

He said work on the centres is progressing well, with some already completed, and expressed confidence that the nationwide project would be finished by November next year.

The President also announced plans to develop indoor gaming centres in Sultan Park and Hulhumalé, as well as racing and drifting tracks and a modern go-kart arena in Hulhumalé. These facilities, with a combined capacity of around 1,200 people, are expected to be completed by early 2028.

In addition, the government plans to build a surfing stadium, an indoor bowling arena, and futsal and netball stadiums. President Dr Muizzu said the government is also funding the development of youth hubs across the atolls, adding that the projects reflect its commitment to promoting healthier and more active young people throughout the Maldives.
