The upgraded section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Malé has been opened to traffic following the completion of major construction works.

The newly developed four-lane section, stretching from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), was opened to the public at 4:00 p.m. today.

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) said the road was opened ahead of Independence Day to improve traffic flow and public convenience. However, it noted that minor works, including the installation of railings on stairways along the seawall, will continue. The stairways have been marked with red-painted kerbstones to alert pedestrians.

The government awarded the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project to MTCC for MVR 144.5 million, with a completion period of 455 days.

The first phase of the project included widening Boduthakurufaanu Magu to four lanes from the fish market area to the central section of Jumhooree Maidhaan, as well as upgrading the stretch between Chandhanee Magu and Faalan Dhoshu Hingun.

The next phase will focus on repairing the damaged section from the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) area to West Park before work continues on the remaining sections of Boduthakurufaanu Magu.
