Malé City Council has requested the public to clear the coastal area around Republic Square and Izzuddin Jetty area to facilitate official Independence Day celebrations.

The council said the area must be vacated from 6:00 p.m. today until 12:00 a.m. on Monday to allow official events marking the Maldives' 61st Independence Day to proceed safely and smoothly.

During this period, all vessels entering or leaving the western side of Izzuddin Jetty, as well as all boats currently moored in the area, must be removed.

The council said the temporary measure is intended to ensure the safety and orderly conduct of the official celebrations. It also called on those who use the area and boat operators to extend their full cooperation.

The council further expressed its appreciation to those who have previously cooperated with similar arrangements.
