To mark the Maldives' 61st Independence Day, it has been decided to divide this year's Independence Day activities across two days, taking place today and tomorrow.
The Independence Day activities this year are being organized and led by the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage.
Among these activities, the flag-hoisting ceremony was held today at 6:00 AM. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the First Lady, along with senior state officials and heads of companies and institutions, attended the ceremony.
Among today's additional activities, the President will address the nation at the official Independence Day function held at 9:00 AM at the Social Centre. In addition, during that ceremony, awards are scheduled to be presented to 61 individuals who have served the Maldivian state for over 41 years and have not received the award to date.
Activities scheduled for tonight include military drill displays and performances at Republic Square at 8:15 PM.
During the event, a route march by military personnel and cadets, as well as a special performance presented jointly by students from Iskandhar School, Rehendhi School, and Shaheed Ali School, are scheduled to take place.
The Heritage Ministry stated that 344 students from the three schools will participate in that performance. Additionally, military drill displays and a cultural performance are included. The event is scheduled to conclude with a fireworks display.
