As part of the pre-construction survey under the Malé Road Development Project, a survey team from the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) conducted core cutting works on Ameenee Magu yesterday.

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development contracted MTCC to repair Ameenee Magu and two additional roads on the 15th of last month.

This comes as sections of asphalt on Ameenee Magu, which was developed under the previous administration, have lifted and deteriorated to an extent that hinders traffic flow. In particular, the asphalt layer on the western end of the road has suffered severe damage.

The Urban Development Ministry stated that under this project, alongside restoring the asphalt layer, changes will be made to the pavement design around bus stops to reinforce those areas.

Ameenee Magu was developed with asphalt paving across a 1.79-kilometer stretch by the previous administration at a cost of MVR 84.4 million. The roadwork was fully completed in 2024.

MTCC stated that upon completion of the project, Ameenee Magu, Izzudheen Magu, and Boduthakurufaanu Magu will become safer for public use.
