The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has forecasted deteriorating weather starting today and continuing through the upcoming weekend.

The MET Office stated today that bad weather and rain will affect all regions of the country over this weekend.

Additionally, a Yellow Alert has been issued from Raa Atoll to Vaavu Atoll from 12:30 PM to 4:00 PM. Heavy rain with thunderstorms, wind gusts reaching up to 40 mph during squalls, and rough seas are forecasted for these areas.

According to the 24-hour weather forecast, rain is expected across various parts of the country, with heavy rain and thunderstorms likely on some islands. Winds are forecasted from the southwest and west at speeds between 10 to 20 mph, with gusts reaching approximately 40 mph during squalls. Seas are expected to be moderate, becoming rough during squalls, with wave heights ranging between 3 to 6 feet.

MET stated that weather conditions are expected to improve on Sunday.

The upcoming weekend coincides with a period when many people are planning to travel back to their home islands following the end of the school holidays. The police have also urged the public to exercise caution and monitor weather conditions when traveling.
