The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard has advised the public to avoid diving and water sports as rough weather and strong seas continue across much of the country.

The MNDF said the Maldives Meteorological Service has forecast worsening weather conditions, with strong winds and rough seas expected in the coming hours.

The Met Office has issued a yellow alert from Haa Alifu Atoll to Faafu Atoll until 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Winds of 25 to 30 miles per hour are expected, with gusts reaching up to 50 miles per hour.

The Coast Guard urged dive operators and water sports providers to closely monitor weather conditions and suspend activities during yellow or orange alerts. It also advised the public to avoid unnecessary sea travel and ensure vessels are equipped with the required safety equipment before setting out.
