Grant aid received by the Maldivian government has increased by 90.1 per cent to MVR 460.4 million so far this year, according to the latest Ministry of Finance Weekly Fiscal Developments report.

The government received MVR 242.1 million in grant aid during the same period last year.

Overall state revenue and grants reached MVR 27.1 billion, marking a 10.4 per cent increase compared with the same period in 2025.

Tax revenue rose by 11.9 per cent to MVR 21.1 billion, with Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST) collections increasing by 6.6 per cent to MVR 7.2 billion.

Non-tax revenue also increased by 1.9 per cent to MVR 5.6 billion. Revenue from real estate rose from MVR 1.3 billion to MVR 1.7 billion, while resort rent revenue increased by 10.7 per cent.

Meanwhile, state expenditure rose by 19.3 per cent to MVR 28.1 billion. Recurrent expenditure increased to MVR 24.5 billion, with subsidy spending rising by 78.4 per cent to MVR 3.5 billion.

Spending on salaries, allowances and pensions reached MVR 9.4 billion, while debt repayment and interest costs rose to MVR 3.3 billion.

PSIP spending stood at MVR 3.6 billion, a 30 per cent decrease compared with the same period last year.

The state recorded a primary budget surplus of MVR 2.4 billion, while the overall budget remained in a deficit of MVR 950.3 million.
