Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will visit the Maldives from September 14 to 15 at the invitation of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the President’s Office has announced.

This will be Anwar’s first visit to the Maldives since assuming office in November 2022. The visit follows an invitation extended by President Dr Muizzu during his official visit to Malaysia in April 2025.

The visit aims to further strengthen the longstanding ties between the two countries. The leaders are expected to hold official talks on expanding cooperation in international and other areas.

The two countries are also expected to sign several agreements aimed at taking bilateral relations to new areas.

During the visit, Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla and Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam will pay courtesy calls on the Malaysian Prime Minister.

The Maldives and Malaysia have maintained diplomatic relations for 58 years.
