The Criminal Court has sentenced a man to prison after he pleaded guilty to hacking a Facebook account, messaging the victim's children to solicit money, and misappropriating the funds.

Adam Rasheed (G. Blueleeva) was prosecuted for hacking the Facebook account of Mohamed Maumoon from Ihavandhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll.

Using the compromised account, Rasheed messaged Maumoon's children—Fathimath Hawla and Ahmed Hamdoon—requesting money transfers of 1,000 MVR and 3,500 MVR, respectively. He provided them with a Bank of Maldives account number belonging to his brother, Hussain Rasheed, and subsequently kept and misappropriated the deposited funds.

Faced with the charge of unauthorized exercise of control over another person's property, Adam Rasheed confessed in court. Consequently, the Criminal Court found him guilty on his own confession and sentenced him to 4 months and 24 days in prison.
