The Election Commission (EC) has published the voters' lists and opened the window for public complaints regarding the upcoming local council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) by-elections across four islands.
Scheduled to take place on the 28th of next month, the by-elections feature the election of a council president for V. Thinadhoo—following the Local Government Authority's (LGA) decision stripping the previous incumbent of the seat—alongside WDC member by-elections for HA. Vashafaru, V. Thinadhoo, N. Kudafari, and S. Hulhudhoo.
According to the EC's published registry, the number of eligible voters stands at 185 for Thinadhoo, 688 for Vashafaru, 2,903 for Hulhudhoo, and 653 for Kudafari.
The deadline for submitting complaints and registry corrections is 12:00 PM on Saturday, October 24. While the lists are available in the Government Gazette and on the EC website, citizens can also verify their registration details by sending an SMS with their ID card number to 1414. All complaints, requests for additions or removals, and information updates must be submitted online through the EC's MyPortal—or via the Simedha portal for political parties—along with official supporting documentation.
