The Maldives aims to attract 2.5 million tourists in 2027, with the Government seeking to boost tourism revenue and ensure its benefits reach more people.

Presenting the proposed MVR 59.7 billion State Budget for 2027 to the People’s Majlis, Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises Hassan Zareer said around 2.28 million tourist arrivals are projected next year.

He said 2027 has been designated the Year of Visit Maldives, with initiatives planned to attract more than 200,000 additional tourists and achieve the 2.5 million target.

The Minister said achieving the target would require close cooperation between the Government and the tourism industry.

Plans include strengthening destination marketing through the Ministry of Tourism, Visit Maldives Corporation, airlines and tourism service providers, attracting more visitors during the off-peak season and increasing flight frequencies.
