President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to expand employment opportunities for people with disabilities as part of the Government’s efforts to promote an inclusive society.

Speaking on the Rayyithunge Adu programme, the President said the Government was working to address employment barriers and other concerns raised by people with disabilities. He added that ministers and company heads had been instructed to support these efforts.

The President also announced plans to launch a nationwide initiative next year to improve the inclusion of people with disabilities and socially vulnerable groups, with a focus on access to healthcare, education, therapy and other essential services.

The proposed initiative is included in the MVR 59.7 billion budget submitted for next year.

Finance and Public Enterprises Minister Hassan Zareer said the programme would prioritise accessible roads, schools and health centres, while creating employment opportunities through Government institutions and State-owned companies.

He said the initiative aims to strengthen social inclusion and help people with disabilities achieve greater economic independence.
